What Can Go in the WoW Warband Bank? Item and Account Boundaries Explained

Use an item's binding tooltip to decide whether it belongs in shared Warband storage. Understand same-region account boundaries, transferable reagents, Warbound until Equipped gear, and why shared banking does not make ordinary Soulbound equipment or every currency transferable.

The Warband Bank shares eligible non-Soulbound items among characters in your Battle.net account’s same-region Warband. It does not turn ordinary Soulbound equipment into transferable gear. Before depositing an item, read its exact binding text and decide which character should receive it, especially when the tooltip says Warbound until Equipped.

Confirm the account and region boundary first

Blizzard’s Warbands introduction defines the Warband around characters on one Battle.net account within a single region. Realm and faction differences are not the same boundary as a region difference. Do not use a shared account login as evidence of cross-region shared storage.

Assume two of your characters are on different realms but belong to the same regional Warband. The realm names alone are not the reason to rule out shared storage. Now assume one character is in a different region: the same Battle.net account does not create a region-spanning Warband Bank.

Establish this before moving materials around or asking why an alt cannot see a deposit. A correct item category cannot overcome the wrong account or regional boundary. Likewise, matching regions cannot overcome an item’s ordinary Soulbound status.

Sort items by the tooltip, not their appearance

Item state Shared-storage decision Important boundary
Eligible non-Soulbound reagent Useful for shared material storage Storage does not teach recipes
Ordinary Soulbound weapon Not transferable through the bank Same Warband does not unbind it
Warbound until Equipped gear, unequipped Keep available for the intended alt Equipping makes it Soulbound
Permanent Warbound item Read its account-bound category Do not apply the until-equipped rule universally

The official introduction says non-Soulbound items can go into the Warband Bank and specifically describes Warbound until Equipped gear becoming Soulbound when equipped. The item-binding reference distinguishes that category from permanent Warbound items. The extra words until Equipped matter.

Quality color, item level, and the identity of the character that found the item do not replace its binding label. If you need to understand why an item changed ownership state, use the separate binding and trading diagnosis rather than treating every failure as a bank problem.

Use the banker as a deliberate sorting checkpoint

  1. Identify the item and read its binding before attempting the deposit.
  2. Visit a banker and locate the Warband Bank, distinguishing it from the character’s personal storage.
  3. Place eligible shared supplies in the shared destination rather than assuming every bank view is account-wide.
  4. On the receiving character, confirm the same regional Warband and look in the shared destination.
  5. For a failure, record the item’s exact tooltip and the displayed message before trying unrelated fixes.

These steps do not depend on a particular tab position, current capacity, or purchase price. Bank layout and capacity details are not necessary to answer the central ownership question. If space is the issue, inspect the current bank information instead of importing an old price or tab table.

Plan two useful alt-transfer scenarios

Shared herbs for a crafter: Assume one character gathers eligible herbs and another knows the relevant crafting profession. Deposit the herbs into the Warband Bank and have the crafter inspect the intended recipe. Blizzard documents crafting from stored reagents, but those materials do not grant the recipe or the correct profession training.

Check the recipe’s actual material names rather than assuming all herbs are interchangeable. The profession-starting guide explains why expansion-specific training and recipe requirements remain separate from material storage. A stocked bank can solve a supply problem without solving a knowledge problem.

Gear reserved for an alt: Assume a Warbound until Equipped item could be useful to either of two characters. Leave it unequipped while comparing who can use it. Transfer first, decide second, and equip only after choosing the recipient. Equipping it temporarily on the finder changes the relevant state; shared storage is not an undo mechanism.

By contrast, an already equipped ordinary Soulbound weapon is not a transfer candidate just because the alt needs an upgrade. Stop at the binding check rather than planning a bank route that cannot change ownership.

Keep gold and other currencies out of one bucket

The official introduction documents shared gold deposits and withdrawals. It separately describes transferring shareable currencies through their currency interface, with some currencies remaining non-transferable. That is not a promise that every character’s currency balances automatically pool.

If an alt lacks a crafting reagent, investigate the item and storage destination. If the missing resource is a currency, inspect that currency’s transfer eligibility and interface instead. Calling both resources account-wide obscures which system you actually need to check.

A helpful support description names the sender, intended recipient, region, item or currency, and exact failure message. It is much more actionable than saying the bank is broken, because it distinguishes membership, ownership, destination, and resource-type problems.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put my Soulbound weapon in the bank for an alt?

Ordinary Soulbound equipment does not become transferable because the characters share a Warband. Read the current tooltip before planning a transfer. The shared bank is a destination for eligible items, not a system for removing character binding.

Does every Warbound item become Soulbound on equip?

No. Keep permanent Warbound distinct from Warbound until Equipped. The latter specifically changes state when equipped. Applying that transition to every account-bound category would erase a distinction the item tooltip is telling you to preserve.

Are all currencies shared like gold?

No. Shared gold banking and transfers of eligible currencies are separate mechanisms. Some currencies cannot transfer. Inspect the currency interface and its displayed eligibility rather than expecting a bank deposit to pool every resource automatically.
